This is Golfmaster Drew . Recently your GolfMasters had the opportunity to play Prestwick (a 4 1/2 star-rated gem). If you don't know this course, you should definitely get to know it by including it as part of your golf package .
in Surfside Beach, the course was built on natural dune field and offers plenty of waste bunkers, Scottish berns, deep pot bunkers and good size rolling greens. The 9th and 18th holes are built around a 50 acre lake returning to the two story clubhouse. Most courses have one or two "signature" holes. There are atleast six at Prestwick.
For mid October, it was a pretty humid day and with the temperature near 90, many of the GolfMasters had towels in hand to keep hands and face dry. Despite the weather and Cart Path Only due to course overseeding, some very good scores were posted. The course was in beautiful condition. Greens rolled great and the overseeded fairways were lush. There is nothing like playing a well conditioned and challenging layout.
There are 6 tee boxes for your golf pleasure. If you have the game, the tips are 7,086 yards. For us mere mortals, there are the "blues" at 6,744, "whites" at 6,347, "greens" at 5,863, "reds" at 5,210 and "tan" at 4,624. Man or woman, young or experience, and no matter what your handicap is, you will find the course to be challenging yet very playable and enjoyable as long as you play from the right tee boxes.
If you are like me, I'm hungry and thirsty after I play. You don't have to go far for a bite to eat. Prestwick has been awarded the Myrtle Beach 2006 Hospitality Golf Course of the Year award. They have excellent food and drinks. After playing this wonderful course, sit on the veranda, grab a bit, sip a few and watch your fellow golfers try to negotiate the closing holes.
