Founders Club at Pawleys

I had the opportunity to get out and play the "new"Founders Club at Pawleys this past Sunday morning.
They've certainly done a ton of work in upgrading this course from what
used to be known as Seagull.
If you like waste areas this course is for you, as there is
some form of a waste area on almost every hole.
These waste areas are quite playable, but require crisp contact. Actually
on many of the holes the waste area and the cart paths are one in the
same.
For essentially a new golf course the greens were firm, but
rolled true. In speaking with the staff
in the clubhouse they have utilized a new strand of Bermuda
for the greens. Emerald Bermuda
greens, the same grass that is used at TPC Tucson, has grown in nicely and currently
mixes well with the winter overseed. The
greens don't seem to break as much as you think they should. I found the greens to be quite playable for
such a new golf course. Like any new
golf course, the greens are firm but will soften up over time.
Founders Club at Pawleys has several holes with divided
fairways offering a risk reward scenario.
For those more accurate it will certainly pay dividends as you can have
a better angle to the green by taking the short cut. Large mounding similar to a hog's back
divides the fairway, and will catch errant shots.
For a golf course in Myrtle Beach,
this course offers significant elevation changes, which was a great change of
pace. One particular Par 3 plays down
the hill and has you question your club choice.
Fortunately I chose wisely this time around. In addition there are quite a number of
elevated greens that are bunkered offering a good challenge and contrast to
many of the other courses in the area.
All in all, I found Founders Club at Pawleys quite
enjoyable. They have a fantastic new
clubhouse that offers a private club type feel.
The clubhouse has a sizable area serving food and drinks after the round. Since we played
early, I was able to order a breakfast sandwich on the 9th tee via
the GPS enabled cart. It was ready for
me as we made the turn. This is a nice
feature that you don't find too often anymore, and minimized our time at the
turn.
