Farmstead Golf Links Named to Most Fun List

**CALABASH, NC – The 18th hole at Farmstead Golf Links has been selected by Golf Digest in its dream design “Top 18 Most Fun Holes in America” as published on line and in the magazine’s print edition for December 2010. Farmstead joined some of the country’s top ranking courses in being selected for the honor.  The field included two courses ranked in the country’s top 10 by Golf Digest, three ranked in the top 25, two best new courses, two top 10 hardest and one designated by the magazine as the best new course for the 21st century. While most of the honored courses were in the western part of the country, one Sanford NC course joined Farmstead.
Farmstead’s signature hole #18 is a par six, 767 yard hole that tees off in South Carolina and finishes in North Carolina alongside the course’s grand 8,000sf Georgian style clubhouse. The course’s total yardage is 7242. It has a slope of 135 and rating of 74.5.

Farmstead was a finalist for Best New Golf Course in North Carolina in 2002. It was designed by Willard Byrd and David Johnson and is managed by Burroughs and Chapin Golf Management. Its sister course, Meadowlands Golf Club, opened in 1997 and was named to the Top 100 Golf Courses for Women by Golf for Women Magazine.

I usually consider myself an optimist but I have a hard time believing that golf simulators are accurate and can really improve your game. Now I’ll be honest I have only been to one and while it was fun, I didn’t feel it showed my true game. Unless I was having the round of my life it made no sense as none of my shots went in the woods and a majority of them seemed near perfect. No way, not my game at a 19 handicap.

So here’s the question. Do you think golf simulators are accurate and can help improve your game? Or are they really designed just to have some good fun when the course is under 4 feet of snow?
